Brooke Henderson dug herself into a hole in the early going of Saturday’s second round at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway, N.J., then extracted herself by finishing with a one under 70.

Henderson started the day one shot off the lead, but bogeyed three of her first four holes on Saturday before her first birdie came on her ninth hole of the day. She then birdied three of her first five holes on her second nine to get to one under.

A bogey on her second last hole took her back to even par on the day, but she birdied her final hole. At six under through the first two rounds of the 54 hole event, she’s tied for 10th, five shots off the lead, going into Sunday’s finale.

Blair Bursey of Gander, Nfld., shot a three-under round of 67 and holds a two shot lead heading into the final round of the Reliance Properties DCBank Open in Victoria.

Bursey recorded five birdies on the afternoon, including a three-foot putt on No. 18, to build a two-shot lead over Jeevan Sihota of Victoria and Andrew Harrison of Camrose, Alta., with 18 holes remaining.

“It was just one of those putts where you’re looking for break, looking for break, looking for break, and sure enough, there wasn’t any,” said Bursey. “It was a big putt, and it was great to get that done heading into tomorrow.”

After top-10 finishes in each of the first four tournaments of the season, a win for Bursey on Sunday would guarantee him a spot in the top five on the points list and exempt status for the first half of the 2022 Mackenzie Tour season up to the first reshuffle next year.
